Canyon Chess Club's 2024 Puma Power Rankings & Honoring Vets on the Chess Board

Prior to break, we brought back our power rankings in chess. This is a way we provide a platform for members of various skill levels to compete versus one another with the possibility of developing their skills and working their way up the rankings. For our beginners we have the Pawn Weight Division, intermediate the Knight Weight Division and for our advanced players, we have the Rook Weight Division. Right now we have King Funsize (Jacob, 7th grade) leading the Rook Weight Division with an undefeated record of 3-0. In the Knight Weight Division, we've got King Blaze (Samuel, 7th grade) at the #1 spot, and in the Pawn Weight Division, we have King Zaaaane leading the way with an undefeated record of 2-0. Prior to the new year we'll announce champions of each division. Throughout the Spring, they'll continue to defend their titles in tournament style play.

Special thanks to all our members who connected with our Veteran community throughout November and the year to compete in our online lichess challenges. We clocked in nearly 8,000 chess moves with members of the El Paso VA Chess club in November. Thank you to King Law aka The Beast (Sebastian, 8th grade), The King (Urijah, 6th grade), Mr. Zubia (Urijah's father), King Rey (Rey, 6th grade), King Ab (Abraham, 6th grade), King Kyman (Dakylan, 6th grade) and King Josiah (Josiah, 6th grade). Our lichess challenges are open to all players in the region. Here's more info on the Veterans Honor Challenge that took place November 16th: click here
